Make Do and Mend

This afternoon was mostly spent trying to figure out what was wrong with my computer speakers, a set of M‑Audio’s AV40s. The right channel is suddenly a lot quieter than the left. Sadly, there were no obvious problems — I was hoping for a blown capacitor or a dodgy connection somewhere — so for the £100 they cost a couple of years ago, I think I have to declare them dead :(

Even more sadly, they were great speakers, they’ve been discontinued, and M‑Audio have replaced them with new model (the AV42) which people find disappointing in comparison…

Sigh. Time to change brands.

At least I got to play with a signal generator and an oscilloscope for a while. I like getting the toys out.
